My Father: The Motivator and the most influential person in my life There are many people that have been influential in my life in many ways. I had to first think of who has helped me in my life. I had written several names down on paper, but the assignment asked, “ examine the nature of this person’s helpfulness”, which caused me to reflect on each person’s name and what was most helpful in the development throughout my lifespan. I chose to concentrate on those persons that imparted values, ethics, and moral standard in every aspect as a child, through adolescent, and to make the same unselfish deposit in another life.

After carefully examining, my father, mother, teachers, co-workers, and mentor, the person that stood out among them all, was my father, Rupert F. Futtrell. Rupert F. Futtrell has been the most influential person in my life, in the church and in the community. When my father spoke in church meetings and in church, people listened and valued his opinion and judgment in any subject. He was a trustee in the church for many years or as long as I can remember. He had a niche for knowing where people hurt, and worked with them to change their ways, without enabling them. It was at the kitchen table where most of the family conversation was about helping “ the neighbors.

” Although we didn’t possess the well-to-do, I don’t remember not having enough, there were frequent visits by the deacons and pastors of county churches that were also concerned about the community as a whole and how to build strength among those miles away. I don’t recall him judging the people that he met, but at times, there were statements that he made that indicated that a particular individual need a special kind of help. The phrase he often used: “ man wasn’t born with evil intent, it is the MY FATHER: A MOTIVATOR AND THE MOST INFLUENTIAL hardship of life that makes man who he is, he has the ability to can change, if he wants to”. I understand the meaning of his statement, when I go into the homes of troubled teens and parents and communities in crisis.

I determine, if there are cognitive, emotional, or environmental situations that need strengthening, after my assessment of the family or child, I engage the family to see what they feel is the problem, if it is an issue that we can work on together I develop a plan and assign responsible persons for each task they desire to see improved, if it is situation outside of my abilities, I refer the families or child for professional care to psychiatric or masters level counselor. I found my father’s wisdom to be helpful to me, because I view learning as a life long voyage. I was taught the equation of life from childhood through adulthood that knowledge + experience = wisdom. He wasn’t profoundly educated, but he appreciated life and the ability to coach an entire community into a prospering settlement. There were oppositions that aroused occasionally, but he was able to keep the community focused on a common goal. His character in general helped me to be genuine, develop a willingness to grow unselfishly and be competent in helping others, and to be aware of my own personality and limitations when helping others to move towards success.

I carry the same passion as my father, when he reached out to people when they needed help the most, discovering a solution that would carry them throughout their life. I care about the quality of the relationship I have with those families and children I currently serve. I also took on the ability to work as a team as I witnessed my father often does with the deacons and pastor of the church. MY FATHER: A MOTIVATOR AND THE MOST INFLUENTIAL There is a growing number of people looking for new answers and all around the world people are inflicted with soaring gas prices, families unable to meet the basic necessities of life, warfare, the treats of terrorism, and the catastrophe in our states and in the neighboring continents. I am fascinated with fellow individuals and strive to bring out the best in others.

I seek to find the root cause of what make people do what they do through internet research and reading materials. I want to be able to assist mental health clients in group and individually to examine their personal issues and expose patterned behaviors, as I have observed in many of the clients I serve. I strive daily to make a positive difference in the lives that I touch daily, through practical application of skills learned and continued career development and growth. After being employed in the field of Social Services for eight years, it is very rewarding to empower families and watch them flourish in their environment. I am currently being assigned cases where families and children are migrating from other states with a very different value system, social culture, and helping these people becomes functional to state and federal laws of this State.
