Mind Map Assignment:      15 points |10 points for the mind Map 5 points for the summary|

For this week’s assignment, students will complete a mind map on the following:

Consider a persistent and unresolved issue occurring in your current setting (e.g., patient medication errors, falls, HAI’s, etc.). An organization may monitor the error data over time, using measurement tools such as run charts and control charts. Unfortunately, these tools do not include the antecedents and concurrent events that influence the outcomes on the run or control chart. Use a mind map (Text2Mind software) to describe and display your unresolved issue. Application of Hardware Equipment in Preventing Falls in Elderly Essay

From Evidence to Innovation

Whilst the recent years have witnessed a significant decline in hospital falls, patient falls is still considered one of the most prevalent adverse events reported in many healthcare facilities. As a persistent and unresolved issue, falls among elderly patients is attributed to a myriad of causes and risk factors, with many of the cases resulting in injury to the affected patients (Schoberer et al., 2022). Considering the substantial financial pressures and lawsuits facing many of the healthcare organisations to growing list of patient safety concerns, strong emphasis by these facilities is placed on identifying a ‘silver bullet’ to fall prevention among the high-risk older patients (Yamada, Demura & Yamaji, 2022).

Concluding Thoughts

Patient safety remains a key element of contemporary healthcare quality aimed at enhancing the analysis and reporting of incidents, and minimisation of adverse events and their effects on patients. Burch and Veninšek (2019) admitted that patient falls among the elderly is a highly persistent and unresolved issue that is attributed to a range of demographic factors, care factors and risk factors that come into play to contribute to the heightened risk of patient falls. Heng et al. (2020) insisted that the adoption of multicomponent programs aimed at identifying and responding to the risk factors and fostering the adoption of best practices and policies may help in reducing falls through enhanced evaluation of risk situations and falls, and the implementation of appropriate interventions. Talking this unresolved issue must first begin by the scanning of the hospital settings for risk factors and their subsequent removal. The decluttering of the hospital environment through removal of obstacles, reinforcement of equipment and infrastructure, and patient education on safety and issue of falls in elderly patients may also form part of the innovative aimed at reducing many of the preventable cases of falls in hospital patients (Jiang & Tian, 2022) Application of Hardware Equipment in Preventing Falls in Elderly Essay
