Climate change is a current topical issue that has continued to elicit mixed reactions and heated debates from various contexts due to the far-reaching effects of climate change globally. Despite various declarations and agreements, these stakeholders, who include governments, corporations, activists, and global bodies, have not done enough to realize tangible results, although some reasonable efforts have been made. It is emerging that various forces blame for failing to have serious decisions taken by crucial stakeholders towards saving the global ecology from collapsing. Capitalism is a hindrance to the fight against climate change. Delays in making serious steps serve to worsen the situation, and therefore stakeholders must synchronize their steps and actions to win this fight. This paper will discuss how capitalism impacts the fight against climate change and how to prevent global ecology from collapsing.

Capitalism and Climate Change
Capitalism is not entirely incompatible with . Although capitalists, like the big corporations, are frequently in competition and increasingly push to expand profit margins, capitalism can also spur recovery from ecological disruptions if only governments are committed to bringing change individually and collectively (Elliott, 2018). Most corporations are currently after profit maximization in the short term without considering the ecosystem’s damaged by their activities. For instance, indigenous people are denied their land rights from various parts of the world to make way for mining by big corporations, consequently destroying ecological systems in such areas (Klein, 2015). A report by Urgewald, a green campaign group, found out that four years after the , almost a thousand coal mining companies deepen their coal interests and are expected to defy global climate commitment. Therefore, the group calls for banks and investors to blacklist these firms (Ambrose, 2020).

On the contrary, Elliott (2018) believes China and India are increasingly and intentionally putting measures to through, for instance, focusing on green technology. Although there are many indicators that capitalism resists the efforts of reversing or terminating human activities that have increasingly led to climate change, with political goodwill, capitalist leaders can show leadership and bring the changes required. To this end, many governments have rolled out roadmaps of events that need to be undertaken in the fight against climate change and line with the Paris climate agreement. These can only come to fruition if all stakeholders in the capitalist societies tame their greed.

Preventing Global Ecological Collapse
Governments must take deliberate individual and collective actions (Elliott, 2018). Taking giant steps is the only option if we must save the global ecology and secure humanity’s future. According to the Leap Manifesto (n.d), Canada’s record on climate change can only be referred to as a crime against humanity’s future. As such, there is no room for small changes, and a leap would go a long way in getting us where we want to be. As per the Leap Manifesto, there is a need to have communities around green energy systems to manage them. Besides, any moves for clean energy projects, the indigenous people should be the first lot to be considered benefits from such projects. This would encourage many communities to embrace such projects in their neighbourhoods.
According to Klein (2015), it is impossible to fight climate change if we are not ready to confront collisions where one group creates the problems and other profits from it. For instance, most governments worldwide have no clout to confront the big corporations destroying the ecology due to the vast taxes they remit out of those undoing activities. Failing to take action
now and watch must not be equated to freedom from consequences. We must also note that we cannot run away from climate change, including flooding, rising temperatures, and heatwaves, immigrations due to draughts in certain parts of the world et cetera.
Governments must also encourage local participation in climate actions. This can go a long way in encouraging creativity and a sense of ownership of the initiatives undertaken. Besides, Elliott (2018) believes that although political leadership is critical to winning the race against time, governments have been too slow in their actions. Therefore, we must see massive governments scaling up investments massively towards clean energy technology. We must also see sanctions against corporations that negligently pursue short-term gains at the expense of environmental impact caused by its activities. Speaking to UpFront (2016), Klein indicates a need for a global climate movement that can scale up pressure on authorities to act on climate change matters. Thus, private citizens have a more significant role in seeing that governments and corporations act responsively to ensure that steps are taken in the right direction and not undoing the gains that have been achieved so far. Thus, preventing ecological collapse is achievable.

The fight against climate change must is real, and all stakeholders must put forward their best efforts. Capitalists must desist from pursuing profits at the expense of the security for the future of humanity. Political goodwill is required for governments to make severe commitments towards this, making the necessary steps. Therefore, to save the global ecology from collapse, all stakeholders must acknowledge their role in this fight and be committed to meeting their obligations.
