            Cellulitis is an acute infection of the skin caused usually by a breakage in the skin integrity (Hammer & McPhee, 2018). It normally affects the lower limbs especially for those working in farms or gardeners.

Pathophysiology

            The pathophysiology of cellulitis starts with the skin’s normal flora. When there is a breakage in the skin’s integrity, these normal flora such as Staphylococcus aureus in the skin take advantage and cause an infection. Pharmacotherapy

            The treatment for cellulitis is antibiotics and antipyretics for the fever. For the adult this includes for instance ceftriaxone 1g IV twice a day for 5 days together with Tylenol 500 mg TDS for 3 days (Katzung, 2018). The benefits include containment of the infection before sepsis sets in. the fever is also taken care of improving the quality of life. Contraindications and drug interactions for ceftriaxone include calcium gluconate and chloramphenicol (Katzung, 2018). Risks include eosinophilia and leucopenia.
